THE MAGIC OF LAKESIDE

THE thing about Lakeside is that it is properly old school. IMAGES: Mark Walker It has character and consequences, elevation and scenery, lumps, bumps and attitude. Last weekend the Queensland circuit racing season wrapped up with the Lakeside 300 for the local Production Car racing scene, with some interesting machinery taking to the track. With the photographer largely bound to the driver's seat of his car (with a sleeping baby in row two), this most photogenic of facilities still put on a show from some different angles...

COMMENT: A NOD TO KUMHO

A mention this week to Kumho Tyre Australia, who this week bow out – at least for the short term – as the major tyre supplier and partner of the V8 Touring Car Series or - as it’s now known, Super3. WORDS: Richard Craill IMAGE: Dirk Klynsmith / V8 Touring Cars. NEWS that Super2 and Super3 would again combine grids in 2021 makes a lot of sense for both parties. Amidst such a troubled year, joining forces this season was a no-brainer and probably helped enhance the product for both categories amidst what may have otherwise been a massive struggle.

MEMORIES FROM THE ADELAIDE STREETS

DATING back to the mid 1980s, Adelaide's famous street circuit redefined the way people went racing in Australia and, indeed, around the world. TRT's Dale Rodgers delves into his archives to tell his own story of the Grand Prix days, the '500 and more. WORDS & IMAGES: Dale Rodgers In the 1980’s, travelling to race meetings in South Australia was not exactly the glamorous leg of the Shell Australian Touring Car Championships. Mallala was sort of a cross between Winton and Lakeside and Adelaide International Raceway, while a step up, was still pretty tough to work at. As one of

THE (LAP) RECORD BREAKERS – MALLALA

EVERYONE loves a lap record – it’s a fact. Look at the frenzy of emotion any time someone nudges the Supercars or outright benchmark at Mount Panorama as evidence. WORDS: Richard Craill BATHURST’s benchmark is the most famous but there are some remarkable record-breaking feats logged in the history books of most Australian circuits. We thought it was worth bringing people up to speed with who currently holds the outright benchmark at each track around this wide

SPEEDWAY IN THE SUMMER OF COVID

HERE at The Race Torque we have documented the devastating effect the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the motorsport world, but where does it leave our non-cricket summer passion, speedway, and in particular, Sprintcars? WORDS: Mark Walker IMAGES: Matthew Paul/Truck Assist While the professional Supercars circus proved to be nimble enough to skip around the country ahead of border closures, the other national circuit racing classes battled to string together a meaningful program in 2020. Super2 faced the starter at three events, Super3 at a pair, while the Porsche Carrera Cup managed a round at the final Adelaide 500, and
