New International Class Coming to The Bend in ‘23

Lamborghini’s Super Trofeo Asia class is coming to Australia for the first time, with The Bend Motorsport Park to host the category’s local debut from June 9 to 11 next year.

However, mystery surrounds the event the one-make series will feature on.

Last week when the 2023 SpeedSeries calendar was announced, The Bend Motorsport Park was a noticeable omission, while the status of the venue’s Supercars event remains up in the air, pending the final calendar announcement.

Complicating factors that are believed to be behind the delay in announcing the schedule include confirmation of backing for a prospective New Zealand round, plus the requirement to make space for the Newcastle event, with the calendar set to contract from 13 events to 12.

As already noted on The Race Torque, The Bend Motorsport Park is set to once again host the Asian Le Mans Series, which is slated to return in early 2024.

Meanwhile, the spec Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia will return to action for the 2023 season after three years parked up due to the pandemic.

The local round will be the second stop of the season after its opener at the Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.

Following The Bend, the series moves to the Fuji circuit in Japan, then Everland Speedway in South Korea, which replaces the Yeongam venue which previously hosted Formula 1.

The penultimate event will be held in Shanghai.

The season then wraps up alongside its continental siblings at a yet-to-be-announced venue for the Lamborghini Grand Finals.

The exact date and location of the 2023 Grand Finals will be revealed at the 2022 edition in Portimão this November.

To date, the Super Trofeo Asia category has been contested over 96 races which have been held on 18 different circuits.
