Mini Aussie Racetracks Flourish
Multiple provincial motorsport facilities around the country are flourishing, with examples in Victoria and Queensland coming to life. Late last year, the Albury Wodonga & Districts Car Club (AWDCC) took over the control of Wilby Park Raceway, a multi-purpose venue 35km northwest of Wangaratta, or a three-hour drive north from Melbourne via Benalla, and have subsequently swung into action tidying and upgrading the grounds. Featuring an eighth-mile drag strip, a short 1,015m long road circuit, and a burnout pad, the Wilby Park facility has been a long-serving staple of the local scene since around 1964, playing host to modern events

THE BUSINESS brains behind Queensland's latest race track development say they are at risk of being beaten to the punch by Avalon, unless the Federal Government comes to the party. Speaking to regional Queensland media outlet the Country Caller, Wagner Corporation Executive General Manager Damian Bell said the recent announcement of a $1.6million funding package from the Victorian Government to support the feasibility study into the new motorsport precinct near Avalon, added to the urgency of securing federal support for their own circuit. That's despite a confirmed $40 million in funding that appears to have been already secured by the

Where else on earth can you see a Ford Falcon speedway car battle it out with a Nissan 350Z drift car, historic rally cars, thorough bush-bashers, and slick road cars, all on an even playing field? Welcome to the world of khanacross. On Sunday, the Pakenham Auto Club hosted a grass khanacross under the Group 5 banner, essentially a joint gathering of different car clubs from across Victoria, who regularly meet for dirt and paved events at the very grassroots level of the sport. Encompassing both khanacross and the shorter, more technical motorkhana events, the G5 calendar features events at

A last-minute double-duty call-up for Jay Robotham has paid dividends at the opening round of the 2023 Thailand Super Series, with the Aussie young gun claiming victory in the Supercar GTC class aboard a Corliss Race Engineering prepared Ford Mustang. After suffering a mechanical issue while leading the opening race, the 20-year-old bounced back in the second encounter. The heat was punctuated by a red flag to clean up a significant oil down created by Manasseh Manuel Caceres’s Toyota Supra. Upon the restart, Robotham had to overcome the McLaren 570S GT4 of Thanapongpan Sutamno and resist the advances of Ford

Will Davison is kind of handy in Western Australia when his back is up against the wall. The two-time Bathurst champion is a former winner out West, with some big results to his credit following some tough races, and following a tough opening to the season for the DJR driver, an form reversal simply isn't out of the question next weekend. In 2012, Davison claimed a pair of race wins at the West Australian circuit, including the epic “Get ‘em or have ‘em off” finish, where he held on from FPR teammate Mark Winterbottom and Triple Eight's Jamie Whincup following

STRAIGHT SIX power has a PR problem. Not that things are particularly bad when it comes to inline six power, moreso that many people tend to gloss over them all together. They’re like that middle of the road footy team that people just accept will be competent, just without the extravagance, pomp and circumstance of a major club or the comedy salary cap breeches or internal scandals of a bad one. It strikes me that Inline Sixes tend to operate without the sex appeal and rarity of a V12 or without the packaging gains a V6 offers. The youth love

MARK WINTERBOTTOM will notch up his 600th Supercars / ATCC start when he rolls into Perth next week, so it seemed like a good excuse to catch up with the Supercars Champion and Bathurst winner to reflect on his journey so far. Supercars young gun Jay Robotham is heading back to Asia to contest this year’s Super Pickup category in the Thailand Super Series. After last year sharing the Caltex Young Stars wildcard at the Bathurst 1000 with Matt Chahda, Robotham has been picked up by the Ford/CRE squad to pilot a tough-looking Ranger. The four-round series features meets at the Chang International Circuit, with a highlight being the mid-year Bangsaen Grand Prix, contested on a wild beachside street circuit. The Thailand Super Series is a homecoming of sorts for the 20-year-old, who claimed victory in the 2019 TA2 Asia Series. Robotham
