Symmons, Superbikes, Supercars, Shunts.. and Geese
A broad ranging chat this week as we delve into the Shannons SpeedSeries at Symmons Plains, Supercars silliness in Sydney, Superbikes at Phillip Island and much more, including a chat about why Tony wants the eradication of Cape Barron Geese from the world. Probably not a show for the RSPCA to listen to, then. Plus the weekly hot & not's and we also reveal what the mysterious 'Grand Ridge Brewery' is, and how they can afford to sponsor a World Championship racing event at the Island.. The new for 2023 Gen3 Supercars platform has been the talk of motorsport circles for years, but what is all of the fuss about? Here we break down what’s changing and what’s staying the same, as the latest Supercars ruleset hits the streets of Newcastle on March 10th. Where we’ve come from Born at a time when interest in top-flight touring car racing in the country waned under international Group A regulations, the first of the 5 Litre Touring Cars took to the circuits of Australia in late 1992. The original examples were very much road car derived, some actually

The SpeedSeries kicked off the 2023 season (at times) with a literal bang at Symmons Plains over the weekend, with ample talking points to keep our patented Power Rankings ticking over for another year. So thanks to you, the readers of TRT for your continued patronage and suggestions. This carries on because of you... HOT 1. Trans Am The biggest field on the weekend, which featured the most on-track drama and talking points, plus some bloody excellent racing. More of this please. 2023 is going to be another corker season… https://twitter.com/simonchapman_/status/1629328241625374720 https://twitter.com/SpeedSeriesAU/status/1629710122745499648 2. Melbourne motorsport's best-kept secret came to life yesterday, with the Rally Retro Festival taking over the METEC Driver Training Complex in Bayswater North. Picture this: the most important historic rally cars gathered from across the country and the world from the 1950s onwards, taking to a super special stage, all spiritedly driven. It was all there, from the local Victorian scene to the ARC, Around Australia trials, multi-nation enduro survivors and overseas masterpieces. Amongst the many star attractions was a fleet of Toyotas out of Neal Bates' workshop. From Morris to Triumph, Datsun, BMW, Alfa Romeo, Sunbeam, Volvo, Saab, Lancia,

The comments section of the internet has properly blown up following this week’s Supercars test at Sydney Motorsport Park – here we break down some of the major talking points. Politics sucks Ugh. Can the next couple of weeks fly by so that we can get on track at Newcastle? When the green flag drops, the bullshit stops, or so they say. If there really is a parity issue between the Chevys and the Fords, the powers that be set a very clear precedent that they are willing to make changes if they have gotten the baseline package wrong. Despite

THE scene is set for the return of AWC Race Tasmania, as four top-level national categories descended on the city of Launceston to launch a massive three days of motorsport in the Apple Isle. Launceston Mayor Cr. Danny Gibson was joined by a host of motorsport talent, including Tassie racing icon John Bowe and up-and-coming local star Lachie Dalton for the official event launch in Launceston's Civic Square. The mayor turned the key on Dalton's AWC Trans Am racer today, giving fans on hand a taste of the sights and sounds set to take to the iconic Symmons Plains Raceway

With the SpeedSeries once again kicking off its season in Tasmania this weekend, it’s prudent to look back at the incredible motorsport-mad legacy that continues to grow to this day on the Apple Aisle. Often overlooked by other major league sports, motorsport has found a home in our southern state and continues to thrive from its 1950s roots, when the wild roads around Longford were the focal point of world motorsport. From there, Baskerville and Symmons Plains flourished, while Targa Tasmania brought motorsport to the people, with its tour of the incredible backcountry lanes, mountain passes, and street sprints attracting

James Moffat trades two-litre turbo for V8 grunt this year as he switches from TCR to TransAm in 2023 - he joins the show to discuss the move, the firepower in the TransAm field this year and his career as it stands - plus his burning desire to get to the top step at Mount Panorama in the Gen III era. Bracksy joins the show to preview this weekend's round of the World Superbikes at the Island, and then we run down the week that was, and - because we recorded this before anything happened - probably get everything wrong

Motorsport 2023 came alive the other week with a scintillating Bathurst 12 Hour GT3 race. Missing this depth of overseas teams and star drivers since 2020, the 12 Hour burst back into life with a nail-biting climax. After 12 Hours and 2006km of racing, the first three cars were separated by 1.41 seconds. Just let that sink in. Oh, and it was after a record green flag running time, not the result of a last-gasp Safety Car. And the speed, the first sixteen cars – well the whole field in the end– posted faster race lap times than any Supercar

The 2023 888 Home Loans Victorian State Race Series kicked off with a bang, with a diverse spread of ten categories taking to Sandown Raceway, with some genuinely feisty racing broken up by various significant moments. In a change of tradition, all races were time certain, a move which essentially kept the program on track, and penalized those who created delays to proceedings. After a red-letter 2022, Formula Vee kicked off the new season with more of the same, with Lee Partridge coming from the clouds to win a drama-filled opener. Reigning champ Heath Collinson finished the race in the
