Forget Paddles: Ford’s next Bathurst winner could be an Automatic

YOU CAN forget the Supercars’ tiresome stick-versus-paddle shift debate: Before Gen III comes to pass, Ford’s next Bathurst winner could be – pause for dramatic effect – an automatic. Don’t refresh the page or fire up on the socials about a typo because you read that correctly. Before DJR or Tickford send their Mustang’s into battle next year, Ford’s next best hope to win a Mount Panorama enduro will feature a car where the driver need not select their own gears at all. Fret not, however, because what it represents harks back to the good old days of ‘showroom showdowns’,

Twilight TCR demo teases potential for a Mallala racing future

SUPERCHEAP AUTO TCR Australia privateer Michael Clemente believes racing under lights at Mallala could offer a spectacular addition to the championship’s calendar – and based on a demonstration run last Saturday night it’s hard not to agree. The young Victorian driver, who made his debut in the championship last year, completed a three-lap demonstration of his Honda Civic TCR entry at the South Australian circuit, during a pause in racing in the opening round of the SA State Motor Racing Championships last Saturday. Originally planned to be held in the late afternoon, delays in the program ultimately saw the demonstration

Sydney’s Speedway Spirit Returns

SPEEDWAY is back in Sydney. Following years of controversy, politics, drama and debate - and then an opening delayed first by Covid-19 and then by horrific weather - the new Eastern Creek Speedway burst into life at the weekend. BRIAN VAN DE WAKKER was there. No one knew at the time that Saturday March 7, 2020 would be the last meeting at Parramatta City Raceway, also known as Valvoline Raceway. In late 2019, the venue was rocked by a sudden compulsory acquisition order by the state government, with the land to be used as a holding yard for a billion-dollar

The Best of Motorsport: The PI Classic

If the 33rd running of the Phillip Island Classic is anything to go by, post-pandemic motorsport is going to be great. Perhaps our judgement of the 2022 crowd size, vibe and buzz was ripened by the memory of last year's limited entry and massively curtailed spectator numbers, all of whom were corralled into a tiny viewing area. This year the event bounced back to over 400 entries, with punters packing the outfield of the Grand Prix Circuit, basking in the perfect seaside weather. There's a reason people build holiday homes on Phillip Island, with this past weekend being exhibit A.
