POWER RANKINGS: ESERIES ROUND 9

A FULL night of Oval Racing was exactly what the Power Rankings powered by Yellow Cover ordered last week, and we got it. Here’s the Hot, the Not and the What from the penultimate round of the ESeries..

WORDS: Richard Craill, Mark Walker, Dale Rodgers, Tony Schibeci

HOT

1. OVAL RACING

The tease that was Charlotte wasn’t enough, so props to Supercars for giving us a full night of it. You wouldn’t want it every week, but seeing Supercars on an oval for a full ‘event’ was sensational, different, exiting and most importantly; fun.

2. DUALS

The qualifying races were absolutely brilliant. Smaller fields made for less carnage (slightly, anyway) and absolutely mental racing. Outstanding.

3. MACCA JONES

Channelled the old man and proved he’s ace at Turning left. Outstanding effort at the pointy-end.

4. RACE 1 FINISH

5. CROMPO

Perpetual Hot, but seriously, who ever thought we’d hear him use the term ‘Wadding up’ on national TV?

Also:

6. IRACING

Added some shake to the cameras close to the cars as they go past, which adds just another element of realism to an already remarkable broadcasting product. So cool.. and the dynamic lighting is cool as well. When these guys get to the point of doing weather, it’s going to be insanity.

7. BOYS HAVE AT IT

We’ve praised Bairdo a lot in these rankings and deservedly so.. to fit the Oval Racing theme he took a decidedly hands off approach with a ‘boys have at it’ mentality, which was fine – yet still pinged people when it was important to do so – like Chaz at the end. Good stuff.

8. BRODIE KOSTECKI

Used his Stateside experience to go full-on spotter for Anton DePasquale, to good effect.

NOT

1. TIME CERTAIN

It’s just staying here until it doesn’t happen again.

2. JAMES COURTNEY’S RUBBISH INTERNET

Back of the field.

3. CAM WATERS RACE 2 PIT STRATEGY

Oh, dear.

4. READ THE REGS!

Several people missed the memo that race two was just a one-stop race and decided to stop twice. Always, always read the regulations – or pay your engineer / spotter to do so..

5. Delays

Extra time required to get into the final race of the night ensured that there wasn’t enough time for organisers to throw a cheeky yellow at the end to close up the field and make for a grandstand finish. The night deserved a thriller green-white-checker at the end!

6. THERE’S ONLY ONE WEEK TO GO

Yes, we’re keen for real racing, for sure.. but Wednesday nights are going to go back to being sucky after this.
