Richos Together for a Cause

The Richards clan came together to support a cracking cause on the weekend, as a Gippsland private car collection was thrown open to the public. Jim, Steven and Clay Richards were star attractions at Ray Ikin's Traralgon shed on the weekend, with the endeavour raising money for the local chapter of the Cancer Council's fundraising efforts. As you can see, it was a reasonably big deal, with a staunch crowd supporting the event, getting up close and personal with an eclectic mix of schmick road cars and racing replicas. All told, the day raised over $6,000 - a job well

Albert Park, Motorsport & Politics: A 90-Year Battle

While the Formula One circus rolls into town for next weekend’s Australian Grand Prix, the 26th modern running of the event continues Albert Park’s rich circuit racing heritage, which dates back to the 1950s. However, its roots extend beyond that, with plans hatched in the 1930s to convert the lakeside setting into a downtown street circuit. This is the story of how car racing’s first attempt to take over the park 90 years ago crashed and burned in a political storm. Between 1953 and ’58, a total of six events were contested alongside the artificial lip of the Albert Park

70 Years of the Albert Park Circuit

Next weekend, the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit will come alive again, 70 years after the downtown track first played host to the Australian GP. And, it's a point not lost on the Grand Prix Corporation, who recently celebrated the milestone with a pair of machines that participated in that opening event by the Lake. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXJknGdsGPE Fortunately, the memories of those early days of competition at Albert Park have been kept alive on multiple fronts, with the State Library of Victoria's excellent archive providing an incredible trove of memories from the era of 1953-'58, where the venue was used for

Throwback: 2019 Australian Grand Prix

The last Australian Grand Prix event before the pandemic struck, and the final to be held on the original Albert Park layout had plenty of talking points. Firstly, the second event out of the box for the new Ford Mustang proved that it was the weapon of choice for season 2019, with Scott McLaughlin taking three wins, with Chaz Mostert picking up the pieces in race three. The biggest moment of that third race happened on the way to the grid, with Cam Waters coming together with Scott McLaughlin, eliminating both cars before a wheel was turned in anger. Making
